Create an Online Services account

Thank you for choosing to create an Online Services account with the New York State Tax Department. Select an account type to learn more about it and find the one that's right for your needs:

Business account

Create Business account

To create a Business Online Services account, you must be an owner or officer of the business and act as the Business Master Administrator (BMA) for the account. Create a Business Online Services account to file and pay New York State business taxes, including corporations tax, sales tax, withholding tax, and more. You can use a Business account to:

  • view the filing and payment history for your business,
  • Web File and pay certain taxes,
  • choose to receive bills, notices, and filing reminders electronically,
  • pay bills and respond to notices, and
  • add your employees as account users with different levels of access.

If your employer identification number (EIN) ends with a C, you will need to create two Business Online Services accounts:

  • For Sales Tax Web File, create an account using your EIN with the C at the end.
  • For other taxes (like corporation tax, withholding tax, and highway use tax), create an account using your EIN without the C at the end.

Business account verification

In order to protect your business' tax information, you must verify one of the following when you create an account:

  • information from New York State corporation, sales, and withholding tax returns filed for your business (You'll need to provide information from a return for each tax type filed within the last 12 months. See Business verification for instructions on where to find the information on your returns.)
  • the five-digit PIN from a letter you received from the Tax Department
  • confirmation that your business has not filed any New York State corporation, sales, or withholding tax returns within the last 12 months

You must each create separate Online Services accounts to view and reconcile your estimated income tax accounts if you made payments under both spouses' Social Security numbers. We store estimated tax accounts separately under each Social Security number.

Individual account verification

In order to protect your tax information, you must verify one of the following when you create your account:

  • information reported on your New York State income tax return (Form IT-201 or IT-203) filed for one of the past five years (You will need to report the New York State taxable income and either the requested refund amount or amount you reported owed. • Note: If you requested your New York State overpayment to be carried forward and did not request a refund on your personal income tax return, enter a single "0" in the Amount you owed field.
  • the ten-digit assessment ID number from your New York State tax bill (open or closed)
  • the five-digit PIN from a letter you received from the Tax Department
  • confirmation that you have not filed a New York State income tax return for one of the past five years

If you don't have the filing information (found on your tax return) required to create your account, you can use Form DTF-505, Authorization for Release of Photocopies of Tax Returns and/or Tax Information, to request a copy of your return.
